Swimming for The Cystic Fibrosis Trust - otherwise known as '2012, another year spent out of my comfort zone'...

For 2012, all money raised by The Swimming Gardener will go direct to the Cystic Fibrosis Trust.

I personally know two families affected by Cystic Fibrosis, and the CF Trust has battled for years to help extend and improve the lives of the people who are born with CF.

As we speak, and largely thanks to the wonderful work of many hundreds of people involved with the CF Trust, a gene therapy trial is taking place which could in future provide a cure for the condition.

What I will do for your money in 2012:

I have arranged to take part in eight very different and very gruelling Swim events in pool, lakes, Rivers and Seas. The highlight of the season will be the NYC 10km marathon swim in New York.

ALL of these events and travel are entirely self-funded, and 100% of your money will go straight to the CF Trust through the Just Giving Site.

None of the events are particularly pleasant…. but after 2011, I learned that the more I suffer, the more money is donated!

The New York 10k in September will be swum in memory of Madeleine Waters, a friend of mine from the USA who sadly lost her battle with cancer in 2011 and was an avid sponsor of The Swimming Gardener. During my 2011 15-mile swim, I carried a message on my hat wishing her luck in her personal battle.

The Swimming Gardener has also been successful in securing a sponsored race-suit from Blue Seventy, the worlds leading Open water swimming specialists. This is not just any wetsuit, they have provided their latest spec 2010 'helix' as worn by winning open water swimmers worldwide.

We have organised this for Sussex Charities, to be carried out along the Sussex Coast. We are actively encouraging businesses to sponsor and promote themselves through this worthy cause, in the knowledge that the funds will directly benefit the local community.
